The LACC
has been holding its Annual Baile de Gala since 1969. The event is part
of Delaware's annual Hispanic Heritage Month celebration. It is a gala
fund raising event where the Agency celebrates its accomplishments and
recognizes community leaders and companies that have made significant
contributions to the LACC and the Latino community in Delaware.

Hispanic Student Recognition Program

The
Hispanic Student Recognition Program (HSRP) is an effort by the Latin
American Community Center (LACC) to recognize and acknowledge exceptional
Hispanic students in both high school and middle school in the state
of Delaware. The goal of the program is to open doors for Hispanic students
to pursue greater opportunities, inspire pride in our people and our
heritage, motivate students to work hard and motivate their families
to support them. The program is now in its twenty third year and enjoys
strong school, community and private sector support.
Award
Ceremony
This year, the Award ceremony was held May, 7 at
Delaware State University Student’s Center in Dover. The event had
the prestigious presence of the President of the Delaware State University,
Dr. Harry Williams and Honorable Senator for the State of Delaware,
Thomas Carper. We would like to thank the Mistress of Ceremony,
Ms. Perla Lopez Baray from Channel 69, the keynote speaker, Cabinet
Secretary Honorable Vivian Rapposelli and our award presenters,
Ms. Rosa Rivera and Jose Echeverri, from Henrietta Johnson
Medical Center and Delaware State University Trustee respectively.
The success
of this annual program depended greatly on the generous support of our
sponsors and valuable team of volunteers and staff, Directed by the
chair of the committee Yamil Sanchez. We would especially like
to thankAstra Zeneca, Comcast, Noramco, the Rodel Foundation
of Delaware, United Way of Delaware, Wilmington Trust, Governor's Advisory
Council on Hispanic Affairs and the Manuelita Olson Scholarship Fund
for making today’s program possible. Also a special thanks
to our special supporters Kaplan
and the YMCA of Delaware, as well.
15 colleges and universities were represented
at the College Fair prior to the event, were they had the opportunity
to offer information about the school and scholarships available to
the students.
The Latin American Community Center (LACC) is launching CAMINO LATINO—Pasos Para Nuestro Futuro, our 1st Annual 5K Run/Walk and one mile Family Walk. The event, organized in conjunction with Races2Run, will take place on May 19th, 2011 at the Wilmington Riverfront. Proceeds will benefit the many families seeking assistance through LACC programs.
The Latin
American Community Center Open House occurs on the first Friday of every
September and kicks off Hispanic Heritage month in our community. It
is an opportunity for sponsors, funders and colleagues to visit the
El Centro Latino and celebrate Hispanic culture and food.
