Advocacy and Outreach

Hispanic seniors face many of the problems encountered by other minorities. Service providers report the most serious problems facing the elderly are lack of transportation, substandard housing and inadequate health care. Their ability to access needed services is often compounded by service provider’s limited knowledge of language and culture. There are three goals for this program:
  • To enhance the capacity of organizations to serve older Hispanics
  • To increase awareness among Hispanic seniors regarding available services.
  • To establish/improve access to services by the Hispanic elderly.
Senior Connection Support Group

In June 2004, with the support of private donations, the LACC started a Hispanic Senior Support group. This support group provides the elderly with an opportunity to connect with other seniors and most importantly to obtain information about services available to them. Special attention is given to those seniors that are raising their grandchildren.

Everyone age 60 or older is invited and welcome to attend.
