Niños Bien Educados
|
This parenting skill
building program was developed especially for Spanish-speaking and Spanish-origin
parents. It is respectful of the unique traditions and customs of Hispanic
families and it is sensitive to the variety of adjustments that are
made as Hispanic families acculturate to life in the United States.
The combination of Niños Bien Educados (NBE)
and the Segundo Paso (Second Step) violence prevention
program for children provides Latino families with a community-based
bilingual and culturally sensitive program to strengthen families, enhance
parenting and children’s social skills. Niños Bien Educados
not only provides parent education and child abuse prevention but serves
as an acculturation and assimilation tool for immigrant parents in the
U.S.
The program is designed to be taught in Spanish and each course consists
of 12 two-hour sessions. The NBE program is most appropriate
for adult parents of preschool and elementary school-age children. The
program has two instructors to cover the adult and children’s components
of the program. To ensure parent attendance and the overall success
of the program, the LACC has also offered baby-sitting services during
each session. |

Parent Aid Services |
| Parent Aid Services
are home-based services geared to focus on client needs that are identified
jointly by DSCYF and the LACC. The Parent Aide provides a continuum
of support services to help families resolve issues which place children
at risk of harm and neglect. The intention of this program is to provide
intervention services thereby preventing families from needing deeper-end-services. |
