The

Center in Dover. The event had the prestigious presence of the President
of the Delaware State University, Dr. Harry Williams and Honorable
Senator for the State of Delaware, Thomas Carper. We would like
to thank the Mistress of Ceremony, Ms. Perla Lopez Baray from
Channel 69, the keynote speaker, Cabinet Secretary Honorable Vivian
Rapposelli and our award presenters, Ms. Rosa Rivera and
Jose Echeverri, from Henrietta Johnson Medical Center and Delaware
State University Trustee respectively.
The Hispanic Student Recognition Program
distinguishes a very diverse group of young people. Each brings unique
attributes and talents to the communities and schools to which they
belong. As such, two of these young people treated us to a sample
of their gifts, Jasmine Lopez, recited her poem titled “Fairy
Tale”, and after that Jennifer Figueroa performed "My
Tribute to Puerto Rico" for the students and families present.
The success
of this annual program depended greatly on the generous support of our
sponsors and valuable team of volunteers and staff, Directed by the
chair of the committee Yamil Sanchez. We would especially like
to thankAstra Zeneca, Comcast, Noramco, the Rodel Foundation
of Delaware, United Way of Delaware, Wilmington Trust, Governor's Advisory
Council on Hispanic Affairs and the Manuelita Olson Scholarship Fund
for making today’s program possible. Also a special thanks
to our special supporters Kaplan
and the YMCA of Delaware, as well.
15 colleges and universities were represented
at the College Fair prior to the event, were they had the opportunity
to offer information about the school and scholarships available to
the students.
