English Language (EL) Civic Classes
|
|
Students in EL Civics classes read, talk, and write about United States
culture, history, and government. Some students prepare for the United States
Citizenship examination through a class of formal instruction. Students hear
English from teachers and volunteers. Students role-play situations: buying
food; buying clothes; dealing with health and safety emergencies, and calling
doctors and teachers to make appointments.
Students acquire levels of knowledge through the State of Delaware
Certificate of Educational Attainment (CEA) process. CEA’s provide
students, teachers, and employers with a standard measurement of achievement.
The LACC has state of the art computing and software. Our students learn to
use computers and language software (Rosetta Stone) to enhance the classroom
learning experience.
The ESL/EL Civics classes are held at the LACC Adult Education Center
located at 701 Maryland Avenue, in Newport, Delaware (on Calvary
Presbyterian Church premises directly across from Banning Park).
