School-Age Programs

The Before and After School Program strives to provide a safe environment for your children to learn and grow, while having fun. Our program not only complements your child’s educational experience at school, but also provides them enrichment opportunities as part of an extended day program.

During the 2020-2021 school year we will be providing your child with expanded Enrichment opportunities in the Before & After Program. These opportunities include:

  • Arts and Crafts

  • Cooking

  • Science Labs

  • Computers and Journalism

  • Reader’s Theater and Drama

  • Dance

  • Boys scouts

  • Girls Scouts

Our Before and After program serves students in kindergarten through sixth grade.

We serve an array of schools across the city in each of our Youth Development programs. In our Elementary programs these schools include: Warner, Marbrook, Richardson Park, Shortlidge, Bancroft, Highlands, Pulaski, Thomas Edison Charter School, EastSide Charter School and REACH Academy. We also have two 21st Century Learning sites at Lewis Elementary and Oberle Elementary.

The Before and After School Program is open Monday through Friday from 6:45 AM to 6:00 PM. We are open every day except for major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s Day, 4th of July, etc.) as well as select professional development days. Our children participate in a ten-month program year and a two-month summer program.

The Before and After School programs provide students the opportunity to participate in girl scouts and boy scouts, art, dance, journalism, book clubs, reader’s theater, athletic activities, Lego Mindstorm, and homework help. A partnership with the University of Delaware provide students with a tutor and ongoing care of our community garden teaches our students the importance of both caring for and giving back to their community.

Delaware Stars for Early Success is a Quality Rating and Improvement System (QRIS), which is a method used to assess, improve and communicate the level of quality in early care and education. It establishes quality standards for programs and provides technical assistance and financial support to programs involved in Stars as they engage in quality improvement efforts. Delaware Stars is designed as a voluntary system that expects programs to work on improving quality by moving up the Star Levels. During the 2012-2013 school year, the Before and After School program at the LACC was assessed as a Star Level 5 Quality After School program.
